Food Allergy

Allergies are very frequent nowadays and food can be one of the many factors determining an allergy. In this case, the allergy manifests itself when the body answers in an inappropriate way to certain food products. As a consequence, the body frees antibodies to fight that substance, rather than receive other similar foods.

It is very important to know a few basic things about food allergies, because you can never know if you or someone near you, from your family, friends or work can manifest a food allergy. You may be an older person and not know you have any allergies, and just the sudden eat something new and…surprise!

There are various types of allergies and it is a good thing to be aware of this. There is also something that not everyone knows about – the food allergy and the food intolerance. And the symptoms are also very different; it depends on the body and on the food product in question.

Theoretically, an individual can be allergic to any kind of food, but there are certain allergies that are more common, such as peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish and dairy. There are several babies and children allergy types that generally outgrow, but the adult food allergies are not outgrown usually.

Food intolerance does not manifest as severe as a food allergy. But the hypersensitivity given by the food allergy is an adverse reaction of the immune system, and it is not related to whichever physical effect from the food. The contact to the allergic food discharges histamines in the body and this causes muscle contraction, excess mucus secretion and much more. Even if there is no cure for food allergies, one can find out what he or she is allergic of by doing some tests in an allergist clinic.

Subsequent to allergic food ingestion, the allergic can be fatal almost instantly. If an allergic treatment is not offered right away, an individual can easily die. In avoiding such unfortunate incidents, the best way is to prevent, rather than treat, as treatment may not be possible. And to do is, it is best to identify the allergen and the type of reaction it causes. Thus, the targeted person can avoid that type of food without ever encountering such violent reactions.
